Established in 1908 by El-Sheikh Mustafa El-Amin as one of the oldest privately owned Sudanese companies, SMA Group has continued to evolve from its early roots in agriculture.
While continuing to develop and grow the Agri-Business, SMA Group has strategically diversified into various business sectors and markets, maintaining its position as an innovator and first market mover through. Not only through the introduction of new products, technologies or technical knowhow, but also developing complete new markets and sectors in Sudan and the region maintaining its competitive edge and role as a pioneering contributor to the Sudanese economy.

In the late 1990’s SMA Resorts was established with the sole purpose of investing and participating in the development of tourism industry, with a focus on the Red Sea coast.

The Nilein FREEZONE is the first and only privately owned ‘Free Zone Area’ located in the centre of Port Sudan on the Red Sea.
Currently under construction on an area over 160,000 m² with Two Private Berths overlooking the Red Sea coast and adjacent to the new Green Port along the northern port. The strategic location links directly to the national highway and national rail network in addition to the continental roads of the Red Sea coast and other regions within and outside of Sudan.
With Sudan being a member of COMESA and the Arab Free Trade Group with a combined total population of over 700 million people, the strategic location of the free zone provides a gateway to Sudan and other regional markets within the African interior.
The free zone will cater to the industrial, commercial and service sectors.
